The Story Of The Highs And More Highs In
The Galvatrons Rise To Fame In The Australian Music Scene.

As I arrived for sound-check, Johnny was already concentrating on a difficult task. “I’ve won!” he exclaimed, pulling a small, plush toy from the prize door of the Try-Your-Luck machine. This was the beginning.

The drums began to thump against the solid walls of Siroccos, followed by the squealing of guitars, the gentle rhythm of the bass, and the melody of the syths. All were checked, and when they working together at a perfect level, the band came and slid in next to me on the couch. After semi-formal introductions, the band told me of their thoughts on their fast rise to fame – upon releasing their first EP – in comparison to bands that have been around for years. “Well, band that have been trying to do stuff for about ten years, they’re just shit… And we’re good (laughs). Cause we’ve got good songs! Even songs that you can play on the piano, (other band members laugh and clap) and they’re still like, a really good song, you know?” Manny states, cheekily.

As confident as they sound about their amazing success, The Galvatrons are still very down to earth, and fun loving guys. As I asked about Condor’s real name (it’s Pete!) I was flashed his condor-like chest hair, bringing about more laughter from the four-piece. It was all laughs and jokes with these young boys from Melbourne.
The band spoke of their current feeling about the tour, as well as the impending tour of Europe. “It feels like a weird part, because it’s like, we’re just about to start the next bit” Manny says thoughtfully, and Johnny adds “It’s because we’ve been very focused on our shows the whole time, but now it seems almost like we’re drifting to concentrating on the next part of what we’ve got to do.”
“Cause we’re goin’ away!” Manny squeals, excitedly.

After being involved in another band, The Inches, questions soon were asked of Manny’s decision to leave that band, and begin life anew, with The Galvatrons. “I was second guessing myself for a little bit at the start, I was tossing and turning in bed, having a freight train running through my mind, I thought, it’s alright, you know? I’ve turned over a new chapter in my long career, and The Inches will probably just be a footnote on my ass. (Band erupts into laughter) Full credit to the boys though, they were good sports about it, I just had to move onto bigger and better things!”

When asked about what to expect, “as a punter” at a Galvatrons gig, Johnny replied “You know that rush you get, when you get a permanent marker and draw a big cock on a public property? I want people to kind of get that feeling – that nervous excitement.”

And that is exactly how I felt, as I nervously trod the very edges of the stage, during that night’s show, trying to get the best shots possible. The venue was a cavernous place, but The Galvatrons managed to fill the space, with their presence alone. Such energy, such style, such amazing poses. And I think this is all part of what a live performance should be.
Made the girls fall in love, and the boys watched on as their girlfriends wandered away, and into the arms of band members.
